Random Acts of Kindness

I want to share with you something I experienced earlier this year.

I ventured out during lunch time to eat. I was pressed for time so I went through the drive-thru. I typically prefer to eat within an establishment whether or not I’m alone or with someone because I like to feel the atmosphere of different places. While in line and one car from the window, I glanced ahead of me. Being the observant person that I am, I found myself reading the lips of the young woman working at the window. Her mouth had formed the words, “The woman ahead of you paid for your meal.”

I then glanced into the rear-view mirror of the car ahead of me and witnessed a smile from ear to ear. She seemed to be so filled with joy that she almost didn’t know what to say. It was in this moment that I reflected on how such a simple act had a large affect on her. The woman ahead of me had received a random act of kindness that could have change her outlook on the day. As for me, I had a pleasant reminder that it truly is “the little things” that can make the biggest difference. It was a beautiful act to witness.

It also showed me how little acts of kindness, acts that spread love throughout the world, can be contagious. For when I got to the window, the woman at the register said that the woman in the car ahead of me had paid for my meal. I smiled, handed her my card, and said, “I’ll pay for the next one.”
