Confidence vs. Arrogance

One key to discovering one’s divinity is to be confident in one’s own abilities. If you notice that you excel at a particular facet of life, hone that skill. Believe in yourself. Be confident that you can have the desired effect. Having confidence in yourself to perform a task or manifest an outcome, will amplify your chances to do so. There is a power within you that activates when you believe and become aware of it. Now, sometimes people mistake arrogance for confidence.

According to the Merriam-Webster definition, confidence means:

  1. A feeling or consciousness of one’s powers or of reliance on one’s circumstances

  2. Faith or belief that one will act in a right, proper, or effective way

While arrogance means:

  1. An attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions

Both arrogant and confident people believe in their abilities, but I believe the main difference between the two is an arrogant person exhibits an attitude of superiority. A confident person believes in themselves but does not believe the are superior to others. I guess you could say the difference between a confident person and an arrogant person is his or her level of humility. A confident person is far more humble. As the quote below states, some may say that an arrogant person let’s people know his or her abilities, while a confident one lets his or her abilities speak for themselves.

Being confident is not a bad thing. Confidence can be a powerful ally. It’s when your confidence turns to arrogance and you believe that you are superior to the person next to you, that it becomes problematic. Be confident in your abilities and practice them consistently. Conscious effort to consistent growth will bring about monumental development. Just remember to be humble in your pursuits and try not to fall for the human need to compare or be compared to others.
